Battlefleet Gothic: Part 1

Battlefleet gothic, warhammer in space

Battlefleet gothic was one of games workshop's specialist games, it was specialist because it wasn't the game they were going to sell to a person that was new to warhammer, it was a game generally aimed at veterans who wanted to try something a little different.

The game revolves around spaceship combat, having my fleet take in yours in a violent, bloody and close game
The main difference between it and 40k were that you always had to move your models, regardless, so you really have to plan a few turns ahead.

I'm relatively new to the game itself, cause I used to own two fleets but I stupidly got rid of them and since then I've regretted doing it, so when I had the chance to start again, I jumped at it.

I've gone a little mad, swapping and buying at most chances I get, to the point of which, I now have 3 fleets, and are looking at converting my own tyranid fleet and dark eldar fleet (them jetbike make lovely cruisers where as the hellions make escorts :D) and considering buying some eldar.

I have always loved the background and every chance to help replicate it and expand it with my models, so BFG is going to be no exception, my imperial fleet is going to ally with my marines to become the personal battlefleet of lugft Huron 'Battlefleet Maelstrom'

As for my chaos, I haven't got that far, I was thinking a preheresy army, but the more I look into the ships, the more I realise that they aren't actually heresy era ships, so I'm thinking pink, purple, turquoise and black to match my girlfriends emperors children or red to be word bearers, because in the maelstrom some word bearers where hiding (sneaky sneaky).

So that's that to begging with, I'll try and get a list wrote up of what I've got, what I'm getting and what I'd really love and hopefully have my first game by then aswell

Cheers for reading, feel free to comment and hopefully you'll catch part 2 :D

WarGamers £5 challenge

Right guys,
I decided to join in with the wargamers £5 challenge (#wg5challenge if you want to search it one Facebook and Twitter)

The basic idea of the challenge is that you can only spend £5 on a new or pre owned model aslong as you prove that it was £5, paint it up, then re-sell it at the end of the month, no prizes, just bragging rights for the winner

So with that in mind I started to scour eBay, and after 5 days of searching, I found these bad boys :D

Really happy I got these for a couple of reasons, they are really nice models, eldar are quite a popular army, I've got eldar myself so I know what I'm letting myself in for model wise, and that it wasn't just one model, so I can get a little diorama/display piece going on if I have time to

Hopefully they will be with me Tuesday/Wednesday so I'll be ready to work on them Thursday after I strip them
I have a couple of ideas, I was thinking paint them to match my eldar and what's really popular now, Iyanden, go for a ancient seer council look and paint them as ulthwe or my last option, was to go for myrmera which is the really popular forgeworld, lots of green and turboise for those of you that don't know about them

So hopefully this will all go to plan and I'll keep you up to date
Thanks for reading, feel free to comment, let me know what your thinking

First List, 30k Iron Warriors

This is a list which I'm going to work on and paint through out the year, I've decided (finally, only took me 12+ months xD) to do Iron Warriors.

I've always loved the Iron Warriors, they are cold, calculated, and malicious. None of them would have a problem killing another for there own personal gain, I don't think they could ever be classed as chaos worshipers, they don't really have the portential for relegious belief, they just happened to have been roped into the wrong side of the heresy thanks to jealousy and the desperate need for revenge.

As for the army, I'm thinking it's going to be heresy era, as for the side, I haven't fully decided, I like the idea of them being a seperate expedition which was alone in there own campaign during the start of the heresy, but that limits my options, but I'll decide as I go
I kind of went OTT on the list, as I said it was going to be 1000pts, but I've managed 1200pts but I'll aim for the slightly higher :)

I will be using the list the is in the forgeworld Horus Heresy book 1: Betrayal.
So the list goes as follows:

HQ

Praetor (180)
-Master Crafted Thunder Hammer
-Iron Halo
-Digital Laser

Troop

10 Legion Breacher Marines (285)
-2 Meltaguns
-Thunder Hammer
-Artificer Armour

20 Legion Tactical Marines (270)
-Artificer Armour
-Combi Weapon

Elites

Legion Apothecary (legion tactical) (60)
-Augury Scanner
-Combi Weapon

Legion Dreadnought (150)
-Twin Linked Lascannon
-2 Hunter Killer Missiles

Fast Attack

3 Legion Land Speeders (240)
-3 Multi-Meltas
-6 Hunter Killer Missiles

Total 1185pts

I'm missing 10 tactical, the breaching marines and the apothecary, so it will give me a reason to paint a smaller army before buying the rest of it

Hopefully I'll actually name my units, name my independent character and create some background for the army, maybe with some allies, cause I like the idea that if I go down the traitor route, I could go with some mechanicus and make the renegades :D because who doesn't love robots :D

Anyways, that's a huge read, so thanks for getting to the bottom, and if you have any suggestions, feel free to give me a shout :)

Cheer

2014, a new year

I'm a bit late with the new year blog post, but as they say, better late than never
2013 has been an interesting year, mainly cause of going to the states on a cross country bus ride for 5 weeks :) and getting a full time contract at my place of work :) but on the model front, it was very poor :(

So to try and help me I've made a few rules for myself that I'm going to try and follow :)

I'm going to try and use all my accounts, listed below, I'm going to try and use and update them on a regular basis, even if it's just once a week

And here is the full list of actual plans for this year, I'm still undecided on 2 armies, but I've got a couple of things to work on til then :)

Plans for the year ;
•Paint a 1500pts 40k (Dark Eldar, Ultramarines, Steel legion, Renegades)
•Paint a 1000pts 30k (Iron Warriors)
•Paint a 2000pts fantasy (Dark Elves? High Elves? Chaos)
•Produce background for atleast one of the armies
•Enter atleast 3 categories for golden deamon
•Enter some online painting competitions
•Consider attending atleast 1 tournament

Getting Invovled In A Campaign

Hey guys

VS

Me and a couple of mates have been planning on doing a campaign at my house for a few months now and we finally made it into 2 options 'Badab War' and 'Horus Heresy'
We would all love to do the Horus Heresy properly, go everything forgeworld, make the characters out of the books, use the full rules, but unfortunately  FW has only produced 4 legions so far, and 3 of us don't want legions out of that book (i want the iron hands, raven guard or ultramarines) and would like other battle, such as calth and istvaan 5

So we decided to give FW some time to bring some of the other books out and go with Badab

I already have a astral claws army, a small lamenters army which i need to finish painting and are in the process of making a red scorpions army then company, so that 2 of them covered and my mate was going to start a Minotaurs army, so there is defiantly have a good starting point and interest for it

I personally see it as a good time to add on to my astral claws, and what better chance do i have to start collecting the tyrant personal militia (with punisher cannon vultures :D )

We haven't set up the sides, or found out who else wants to join in, but as the way it looks so far, im defiantly going to be at the head of the secessesionists

So ill be using this as a work in progress for whichever army i end up with and also my red scorpions

Thanks for reading and if any of you guys have ran this campaign before and could give me pointers, please feel free to get in touch

Review: Dark Vengeance

Dark Vengeance by CZ Dunn

My opinion is that CZ Dunn was given a poor book to write and work on.
Trying to write about eleven different characters is hard, but even harder when you consider its only 126 pages long

Each section is written from the point of view of one of the characters, it keeps going back to each one fortunately  cause when a new character is brought in, it explains some of the back story about them, and some of them are just too far-fetched for my liking
Unfortunately, each section is split between 3-10 pages, the lower number being the more recurring one

Once you get your head round that fact, its not too bad of a story, tho the background for the chaos space marines is a bit of a let down, how they go about doing things is also a bit of a let down, but ill let you read that and decide for yourself

The book ended as it did so he didn't need to write another one explaining more about these characters cause he basically uses the psyker to sum it all up for you

My personal belief is that it would have made a better audio drama rather than a novel
so im going to give it a 5/10 (7/10 if it was an audio drama)

Thanks for taking the time to read this short review, i didn't really have much to say about it without really spoiling it for you, please feel free to leave your comments below

Also my next book is going to be 'Wrath of iron by Chris Wraight'

Thanks again
Dave
